Dr. Shannon Johnson is one of Affinity's valued consultative professionals, offering adult autism spectrum disorder (ASD) assessments. As part of Affinity’s whole-child, whole-family approach, this service is reserved for parents and caregivers of children receiving services at Affinity. It is intended to support families who may wish to explore their own neurodevelopmental profile in order to better understand themselves and their child.
Dr. Johnson holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology from the University of Victoria. She completed her clinical internship at the Medical University of South Carolina and a postdoctoral fellowship at Indiana University. She is currently an Associate Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Dalhousie University. She specializes in neuropsychological, psychoeducational, and neurodevelopmental assessment, as well as adult psychological intervention.
With more than 25 years of experience as a clinician-scientist, Dr. Johnson integrates research evidence into her clinical assessment work. Her research investigates the health benefits of nature connection and focuses on developing interventions that promote this health behavior. She is particularly committed to improving access to adult autism services and is actively involved in training psychologists in adult autism assessment.
Dr. Johnson has lived in Nova Scotia with her family for over 20 years. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with family and friends, along with her two Labrador Retrievers.
