Psychologists are interested in how people think, feel, and behave. They are uniquely trained and skilled in the administration of psychological tests – such as questionnaires, standardized tests, and interviews – to better understand an individual’s strengths and challenges.

Psychologists

All of the psychologists at Affinity Group have minimum training of a Master’s degree, and several have doctoral-level training (Ph.D. or Psy.D.). All of our psychologists are registered (or registration candidates) with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP), which is responsible for regulating the activities of all psychologists in Nova Scotia. Many of our psychologists are also affiliated with other community services and organizations (e.g., IWK Health Centre, Autism Nova Scotia).

Affinity Groups’ psychologists provide a range of assessments to children ages 2 to 18 years of age. Common referral questions include developmental delays, attentional difficulties, learning challenges, and/or possible mental health concerns (e.g., anxiety, depression, etc.). We are fortunate to have several psychology team members with years of specialized training and experience in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In addition to assessment, several of our psychologists also provide intervention services specific to neurodevelopmental differences – including parent coaching, anxiety treatment, and social-communication training.

At Affinity Group there is no ‘one size fits all’ – our psychologists will determine the best possible assessment and/or intervention plan for your child’s unique strengths and challenges.
