Integrative Pediatric Consultation

Integrative Pediatric Consultation offered by Dr. Joy Eberhardt here at Affinity Group.

These consultations are typically about 3 hours in duration with the goal to assess and support a child's developmental, behavioral, emotional, and learning needs.  This approach combines conventional medical expertise with holistic, evidence-based strategies to create an individualized care plan.

What to Expect in the Appointment:

  • Detailed History & Parent Concerns: Dr Joy gathers an in-depth history, including pregnancy/birth details, developmental milestones, medical history, school performance, social interactions, and family dynamics. Parents or caregivers can discuss specific concerns about behaviour, learning, attention, emotional regulation, sensory processing, or social challenges.

  • Comprehensive Developmental & Behavioural Assessment:  Dr Joy will observe and interact with the child, evaluating areas such as communication, motor skills, cognitive abilities, emotional well-being, and adaptive functioning. Standardized screening tools or questionnaires may be used.

  • Collaborative & Integrative Approach:

    • Review of medical, nutritional, and lifestyle factors that may impact development and behavior.

    • Discussion of complementary strategies such as nutrition, sleep, mindfulness, and sensory supports alongside conventional medical and therapeutic interventions.

    • Coordination with professionals (OT, speech, psychology), educators, and other specialists as needed.

  • Personalized Recommendations & Next Steps:
The pediatrician will provide a tailored care plan, which may include referrals, school accommodations, therapeutic strategies, parenting guidance, and follow-up care to support the child’s development.

This consultation is ideal for children experiencing developmental delays, neurodevelopmental differences (ADHD, FASD, autism), anxiety, emotional dysregulation, sensory processing difficulties, DCD, eating difficulties (like ARFID), or learning differences. The goal is to empower families with a well-rounded, holistic approach that fosters the child’s growth and well-being.
