Early Developmental Screening Assessments
At Affinity, we believe early identification is key to supporting healthy child development. Too often, families tell us they wish they had known sooner that their child needed extra support. That’s why we offer our Early Developmental Screening Assessments, a multidisciplinary consultation designed for children in their early years (ages 18 months to 4 years). Your child will be seen by a psychologist, speech-language pathologist, and occupational therapist, who will each screen core areas of early development, including, cognitive and learner readiness, speech and language skills, and motor development. By working together, our team provides an informed snapshot of your child’s current development helping determine whether they are on track or may benefit from early intervention. When concerns are identified, our team offers personalized recommendations and practical next steps—because the earlier we act, the better the outcomes.
Preschool Assessments
Our preschool assessments include a variety of components to ensure a thorough evaluation, including direct testing and observation of the child, a parent/caregiver interview, and a daycare/preschool consultation (telephone and/or observation). This assessment explores key developmental areas such as cognitive, language, and motor skills, as well as adaptive behaviour and socio-emotional functioning. When applicable, this assessment also incorporates diagnostic assessment for autism. This thorough evaluation helps inform decisions regarding preschool or school placement, while also providing recommendations for support or intervention where needed.
Psychoeducational Assessment
Our School-Age Psychoeducational Assessment is a thorough and supportive process designed for students ages 5 to 18. It helps us understand how a child learns, thinks, and feels by exploring areas such as cognitive abilities, memory, attention, language, academic skills, and socio-emotional well-being. The process includes one-on-one time with the student and interviews with parents/caregivers and teachers. This detailed assessment helps identify strengths, areas of difficulty, and provides recommendations for academic support or intervention, ensuring your child or teen is supported in reaching their full potential.
Diagnostic Assessments
Our diagnostic autism assessments are as individualized and multifaceted as the students we work with. Tailored to each student, these assessments consider various factors, including the student’s cognitive and academic abilities, mental health history, age, and self-identified gender. Our approach is multi-informant, gathering valuable insights from the student, parents/caregivers, teachers, and other key individuals who observe the student’s behaviour and development. This ensures a comprehensive understanding of each student’s unique needs.
At Affinity Group, we like to say our assessments are a comma, not a period—because we often support our students and families long after the assessment ends.
